The Regional Transportation District (RTD) will experience temporary detours on portions of some bus routes due to the Runnin’ of the Green 7K race on Sunday, March 14, 2010. LoDo’s Annual “Lucky 7K” race will start and end in front of McCormick’s Fish House & Bar located at 17th and Wazee.

Some RTD bus service will be temporarily interrupted due to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Saturday, March 13, 2010, starting at 9:30 a.m.

Denver – A portion of the Regional Transportation District (RTD) normal bus service will be interrupted in downtown Denver for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, March 13. The parade will start and end at Coors Field and is expected to last approximately 4 hours. The interrupted service is expected to start at 9:30 a.m. RTD will experience detours on portions of the following bus routes:

• Route 1, Route AF westbound

• Route 6, Route 20, Route 28, Route 32, Route 44 eastbound

• Route 38, Route 52 westbound and eastbound

• Route 12 northbound

• Route 8 northbound and southbound

The buses on these routes will continue running during the parade. Riders can expect to add a few minutes to their travel time because of the detours.

The FasTracks Northwest Rail corridor could get a head start under a plan that would build its first six and a half miles, between Denver Union Station and south Westminster at 72nd and Lowell Boulevard, as part of the construction of lines to the airport and Arvada. That will give RTD the capability of initiating rail transit service to southwest Adams County and Westminster sooner rather than later.

RTD’s pay-to-park program isn’t paying. The program that charges out-of-district transit riders to use high-demand park-n-Ride lots has brought in only 33 percent of its expected revenue, while costing only 54 percent of its original expenses.

The Regional Transportation District (RTD) Board of Directors swore in Angie Rivera-Malpiede as the newest Board member at a special Board meeting held on Tuesday, March 9. Ms. Rivera-Malpiede succeeds Juanita Chacon as RTD Director for District C, which includes northwest Denver and surrounding areas.

Lakewood Edge reports that the public will encounter delays or detours at the Jefferson County government campus on Johnson Road in the coming weeks due to West Corridor light rail construction. Crews moved in Monday to begin operations that include excavation for retaining walls and the parking garage, underground utility relocations, station construction and roadwork. During construction, the bike path just south of the complex will be closed and pedestrians will be re-routed north on Johnson Road to Jefferson County Parkway.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the U.S. Senate was tied in knots Monday as it tried to get around a single lawmaker’s objection to a spending bill. Sen. Jim Bunning (R., Ky.) again blocked a $10 billion bill that would have extended unemployment benefits and other programs after halting its progress last week. And on Monday, the impact of his blockade started biting, with the expiration of benefits to 100,000 people and the suspension of 41 transportation projects across the country.
