RTD’s first light rail exterior advertisements rolling out, available in extra large size

New revenue source helps during tough economic times

The Regional Transportation District has a new option for those who want to advertise on RTD vehicles. RTD’s first light rail train exterior advertisement will be running on the tracks beginning Wednesday, March 3.

RTD will join many transit agencies in the United States and internationally that utilize the exteriors of their light rail train cars for advertising. These new full side advertisements, as the name implies, run the length of one train car and cover the entire side and up to 10% of the windows.

The first advertiser to complete a contract for a full side ad is the Healthy Marriage Project, with the message “Invest in Your Marriage” (photo attached). RTD’s advertising contractor, Lamar Outdoor Advertising is working on contracts for three additional full side light rail train ads that include: Colorado Beef Council, Penterra Plaza, and REC Solar. Those ads will be installed and displayed on light rail trains beginning later this month.

“During these tough economic times this provides RTD with another revenue source that will help us keep our bus and light rail service running,” says RTD General Manager Phil Washington. “RTD also recognizes the importance of offering companies options when advertising with RTD.”

RTD contracts with Lamar Outdoor Advertising to sell ads on the exterior and interior of its buses and light rail vehicles. RTD is guaranteed $3.3 million over the next three years from the light rail exterior advertising contracts.
