CDOT: Bad weather holds up reopening of 104th Avenue bridge over Platte
Due to the recent snow storm, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will not be able to reopen the 104th Avenue (CO 44) bridge over the South Platte River today.
“We still have two to three days of work left before we can reopen the bridge to traffic,” said CDOT Project Engineer Steve Pineiro. “As long as the weather cooperates next week, we should be able to reopen the bridge by the end of the week.”
At this time, 104th Avenue remains closed between Colorado Boulevard and US 85. Local traffic is allowed beyond the closure point up to the bridge, but is not allowed to cross the bridge over the South Platte River. Motorists are being detoured along Colorado Boulevard to 88th Avenue or US 85 to I-76 and then to 88th Avenue.
CDOT closed the bridge on November 16th following a recent inspection that showed that the concrete around the pier caps and girders along one span of the bridge was rapidly deteriorating.
Jalisco International, Inc. is the contractor for the repairs that will cost approximately $241,000. More information will be released next week regarding the opening of the bridge. The repair work and reopening is weather dependent.
