More than 600 people have had contact with the executive search firm working for RTD to help select a new general manager to replace Cal Marsella, who left the transit agency in July.

Of those, 250 resumes have been collected.

RTD hired the Maryland firm of Krauthamer & Associates to assist with the search.

The candidates include Phil Washington, RTD’s interim general manager, who was assistant general manager for finance and administration under Marsella. Washington was appointed interim general manager when Marsella left.

Krauthamer has a potential $100,000 contract that includes a fixed fee of $40,000 for the new general manager search, an optional $35,000 if the board decides to recruit a second top manager to separately head the beleaguered FasTracks transit expansion program and $25,000 in reimbursable costs for things such as advertising the position, candidate travels to interviews and background checks.

The RTD Board of Directors Executive Search Committee has come up with a process to take input into the selection from transportation stakeholders. It will include an informal meeting with the candidate finalists for stakeholders, agency staff and consultants.

RTD says it also will assemble a five-member panel of “civic leaders” to represent “many different constituencies across the regional community.” The members will meet with the finalists as part of the selection process and provide input to board members who will make the pick.

The board wants to have a new general manager hired by the end of the year.
