This week’s work is part of a project that replaces the existing CO 7 bridge over the South Platte River and replaces the existing bridge over the McCann Ditch with a new concrete box culvert. The CO 7 bridge over the Platte was originally constructed in 1965 and is one of Colorado’s structurally deficient bridges.

“As part of a bridge replacement project, there are several construction activities that require us to completely close the roadway for the safety of the traveling public,” said CDOT Project Engineer Jason Lucerna. “We are conducting the work in the overnight hours when traffic volumes are lower and most businesses are closed.”

During the closure, motorists can take Tucson Street north to 168th Street, then east to U.S. 85 south, then back to CO 7. All lanes of CO 7 will reopen by 5:30 a.m. the following day.

Zak Dirt Inc. is the contractor for this project, which is scheduled to be complete by the end of April 2010.

The bridge carrying CO 7 over McCann Ditch is also being replaced. Also built in 1965 of concrete T-beam, is is still structurally all right but is functionally obsolete for today's traffic loads. CDOT Photo
